Business Models I Love
I have been fortunate to have worked with some of the best management consulting
companies in the world and have had access to some great business brains. I have also
worked with one of the most dynamic governments globally.

Here are some of my favorite business models:

The Balanced Scorecard

A terrific management tool for defining how a company implements strategy and how a
company can achieve alignment across the organisation to achieve strategy
implementation.

I did my training through the management consulting company Renaissance which was a
consulting company founded by the original authors of the Balanced Scorecard books,
Kaplan and Norton

The books to read are:

  • The Balanced Scorecard - Translating Strategy into Action
  • The Strategy -Foucsed Organisation - How Balanced Scorecard Companies
Thrive in the New Business Environment
  • Alignment: Using the Balanced Scorecard to Create Corporate Synergies
  • Strategy maps: Converting Tangible Assets into Tangible Outcomes

Oh, it only works if the company leader is
passionate about it!
The Dubai Quality Award

The Dubai Quality Award is a business development process based on the EFQM
model
http://www.efqm.org  the Dubai Quality Award is an excellent merthodology.
Companies can assess the effectiveness of their busineses across a number of
dimensions that include strategy, customers and employees. The sponsor if the Dubai
Quality award is the Ruler of Dubai and today it achieves a wide number of initiaves
that have helped Dubai become a professional and competitive city. Lots of detail on
the web site

The DQA model is below
  • Performance Management - a management process for defining company
Vision, Mission, Strategic Objectives, Financial and Non_Fianancail KPI's and
how this links to individual performance objectives. A simple business process
that can be taught over a two day seminar to management teams.
  • Strategic Management - this fascinates me, how companies evolve and
compete in different markets from highly competitive environments to what are
    in effect monopolies.
  • Current financial performance is not a reflection of future earnings potential
unless you understand the principles of industry dynamics and the competitive
environment. Yes - things do change quickly, often for the worse if management
teams do not see the canges coming.
  • Originally I was trained through exposure to worls class management
comsulting companies and later through the two MBA's I hold. One of the
management consulting company's was called Monitor. They has the original
thinker in strategic management Michael Porter as a founder of the company
  • I have gained valuable experience working on competitive strategies for multi
nationals across Europe, the Far EAst and the Middle East.
